Tips For Looking Good At The Prom

Whether you call it a formal, a social, the Sixth Form Leaver’s Ball or the prom, this is a special event that only comes once. Naturally, you want to look good, and here are a few tips from the Noble team to help you prepare for the big event.

Hairstyle
Your hair should complement the dress you are wearing- for example; accessories work best when you wear a simple dress, while a bun or curls work best with high-neck or open-back dresses. When you go to a salon, don’t be afraid to bring magazines or reference photos, as this will make it easier for the stylist to know what you want (you may also want a practise session a couple of weeks before to try out ideas, as well as booking an early appointment as salons are likely to be booked up very quickly around this time.)

Makeup
A common tip is to “pick an area and highlight it.” One example is using red or dark pink lipstick to highlight the lips or using eyeliner, shadow, and mascara to showcase the eyes. However, be wary that you do not overplay it- false eyelashes can look great, but you don’t want to go over the top. As with the hairstyle, talking with a salon can allow you to get the look you want to achieve.

Nails
A key way to getting your nails to look good is a healthy diet, with emphasis on vitamins and protein. Keeping them short and trimmed will prevent breakages while having a file in your bag will allow you to remove rough edges on the night. Also, this may sound obvious, but it is vital to emphasise- don’t bite your nails!

Running repairs
If you are worried that your hair might fall in the night, include a can of mini hairspray and a few pins, as these can be discretely slipped into your bag and can let you maintain your look as the night goes on. Using your phone camera can also be useful to help you check before you make your grand entrance.

Preparation
How you prepare yourself before the prom is important too. If you can, switch to a whitening toothpaste and avoid too much coffee or anything that could stain your teeth. Also using a clarifying shampoo, the night before will remove residue and increase the volume of your hair.
